April is Autism Awareness Month

April is Autism Awareness month. To celebrate, I went to see a person that inspires me.  Dr. Temple Grandin spoke at Regis University on April 14, 2014. The auditorium was filled with students, families and individuals from the community.

When she says “Autism is a part of who she is, not who she is” it is a great reminder that everyone is made up of so many different things. It reminds me of all the people I work with in my counseling practice.

When people are impacted by Autism, it is important to remember that this is only one part of who they are. We need to talk about all of these parts to get to know a person.
